Visual Snow Syndrome (VSS) is a neurological condition where “many flickering tiny dots, like snow or static, fill the entire visual field.” It is believed to be associated with how the brain processes information.
Those suffering from VSS also commonly see floaters and after images (where they continue to see images even after they are out of the line of sight), and experience tinnitus (ringing in the ears), migraines, sensitivity to light and impaired night as well as reading vision. There is currently no known cure/treatment for VSS as it is still being researched and had only recently been officially medicially recognized as a condition.
As an individual who experiences VSS, though there have been some improvements, I’ve noticed that there is still a lack of knowledge, understanding and acknowledgement of the condition, where medical professionals, particularly general practitioners, had not even heard of the condition until recently.
The (hypothetical) Museum of Visual Snow Syndrome (MoVSS) aims to spread awareness, eduate, and enable people to understand and experience the physical as well as adverse mental impacts that the syndrome has on individuals suffering from it.
